Summer Splash Book Blog Tour – Week 4

Once upon a time there was a little girl, who use to sit in the branches of a cherry tree dreaming of the day that she would find a place to call home. Little did she know…

…that it wasn’t a place she was looking for, but a group of like mind thinkers that would understood why she thought like she did, and why she saw the world through kaleidoscope glasses.

It would seem, no matter where you live, what your background is, how old you are or what your gender is, if you are destined to create, it will find a way to manifest itself within you. You need only be open to receive it and explore the opportunities to share it with the rest of the world. We continue again this week with insights from another indie author. I really have enjoyed our interviews thus far and have learned a lot. I hope that you have too.

Please meet Catherine Banks the next author on the Summer Splash Book Blog Tour.

catherine banks

Catherine is the author of the Artemis Lupine Series, Little Death Bringer Series, Ciara Steele Novella Series, and the novel Daughter of Lions. She began writing fiction stories when she was only four years old and finished her first full length novel at the age of fifteen.

Catherine is a Northern California native and has lived within a twenty mile radius her entire life. She plans to travel to as many places as possible in her thirties to make up for her lack of traveling experience. She is married to her soulmate and best friend, Avery, who blessed her with two amazing children. After her full time job she reads books, plays video games, and watches a lot of anime shows and movies with her family to relax.

Catherine’s Insights on Writing.
How long have you been writing?

The first story that was written down was when I was four years old (my grandmother typed the story while I told her it).

What genre do you write in?

I write fantasy, both Young Adult and Adult.

Do you hand-write or use a laptop/PC when creating?

I used to write by hand, but now I use a laptop. Sometimes I still write by hand, if I just can’t wait until I get to my laptop.

Do you have a planned schedule for writing?

No, I just write whenever I have time.

Do you have any advice to share about writing?

Do it! Just write! It doesn’t matter if it’s terrible or amazing, just get the words on paper.

Catherine’s Insights on Character Development

Do you have a favorite character that you have created, and why is she/he/it your favorite?

My favorite characters are: Marin from The Little Death Bringer Series because she is tough and feminine at the same time and learns to embrace that & Faxon from Pirate Princess because he has a deep mysterious past and though he comes off as cold at first, you learn that he is one of the most loyal people in the world.

If you could be any character from your book/s who would it be and why?

Well, most of my characters have some traumatic lives so I don’t think I would want to be them at all. Unless I can choose to be them just in the ending!

If you could meet any character from your book/s who would it be and why?

Ares or Koda from Artemis Lupine Series because they’re hot and fun.

Catherine’s Insights on Publishing

Are you a self-published author or are you represented by a traditional publisher?

Self-published!

If you are a self-published author who did you publish/print your books with e.g.; print on demand company or through a local printer.

I’m published through Createspace for my paperback books.

If you are a self-publisher what do you like most about it?

I love having complete control over my books and getting to decide the cover, formatting, etc.

Do you have E-books and/or hard copies?

Paperback and e-books.

Catherine’s Insights on Promotion & Merchandising

Do you think it is important to have merchandise, (besides your books) at promotional events?

I think it is incredibly important to at the very least have bookmarks.

Do you have future merchandising ideas that you would like to share?

I am planning to have metal hook bookmarks with beads and things to represent certain books to either giveaway or sell.

What is up next for you e.g. up and coming events, another book/series, movie deal?

I’m currently working on Pirate Princess #2 as well as Little Death Bringer #3.

Catherine has several titles under her belt, here is a short list of her work.

Artemis Lupine Series: Song of the Moon, Kiss of a Star, Healed by Fire, Taming Darkness
